SES Engineering Services’ focus on sustainability comprises four key priorities; the wellbeing of people; delivering quality, sustainable buildings; developing social value for communities, and protecting and enhancing our environment.

PEOPLE

People are our number one priority and we are committed to creating a culture which ensures our people, and all those who we work with, are protected from harm. This means supporting their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and driving campaigns that address stress, fatigue, and lifestyle choices.

We have invested in our strong network of Mental Health First Aiders and we are proud of our industry-leading safety record, with a performance well above the industry average.

As an Investors in People Gold accredited employer we take the professional and personal development of our people seriously. We respect and celebrate people’s differences and we have embarked on a journey to develop a more diverse workforce and more inclusive workplace where everyone – regardless of background – is welcomed, included, and connected.

Our diversity and inclusion strategy indicates that by 2025, our ambition is to have a workforce that more accurately reflects society – meaning that as a Group, we will have 60% male; 40% female across all levels of the business; 20% BAME representation; 5% LGBTQ and 3% with a disability.

Zero Waste

ENVIRONMENT

We work in one of the least environmentally sustainable industries in the world. At the heart of our purpose is our approach
to creating tomorrow together and our belief that business done well can be a force for good.  At SES we are committed to reducing our industry’s environmental impact and our five-year strategy sets out this commitment and how, together with our customers and supply chain partners, we can be better custodians of the environment and protect our earth’s precious resources and habitats for future generations.

Our strategy sets out the following bold targets:

  • Zero Waste from our operations by 2025 by reducing and then eliminating the production of all waste produced as a result of materials bought and used in the process of delivering our work
  • Zero Carbon from our operations and operational vehicles by 2025 (Scope 1 and 2 emissions)
  • Positive Impact on Nature, enhancing the natural environment where we operate and increasing the value and community benefit of nature in areas where we are working.

We are partners of The Carbon Trust and support The Conservation Volunteers in its work to promote biodiversity and in developing greener, more sustainable, places.

BUILDINGS

SES is BIM Level 2 accredited and is proud to have in-house CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessors, complemented by our CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants. This supports the Government’s – and our own – drive towards improving construction standards and looking for better ways to deliver buildings safely, sustainably, and to the highest quality.

We work with our customers and supply chain partners to find innovative ways to deliver properties for a more sustainable built environment.

COMMUNITIES

SES endeavours to create social value to help build healthier and more prosperous communities.  Through our commitment to supporting Social Enterprises, we are working to generate positive, long-term, economic, social, and environmental outcomes for some of the UK’s most deprived areas.

Via our charitable and public sector partnerships – including the Group’s Family Enterprise Trust – we support hundreds of causes that help to ease poverty and loneliness, and which promote better living, education and employment, and improved health and wellbeing.

SES is committed to creating a legacy in the communities where we live and work, raising aspirations and encouraging people to make positive changes to their lives and also showcasing the construction industry as a career route.

We work with local partners, such as Job Centre Plus and Local Authorities, to up-skill local people ensuring that those furthest from the workplace are reached.
