SES reaches record £590m turnover as external growth accelerates and investment drives future expansion
Engineering company SES has reported record turnover of £590.4m in 2025 and an order book of nearly £1bn, alongside continued investment in its people, technology and operational capability, as it seeks to become the UK’s most profitable and sustainable engineering and technology business.
Turnover increased by 27 per cent to £590.4m, from £463.7m in 2024, marking the fifth consecutive year of growth and the highest revenue in the business’ history. Pre-tax profit increased from £9.3m to £9.9m, despite significant investment in enhanced capability and capacity to support strategic business growth.
2025 included the creation of SES Technology, targeted towards the high growth sectors of data centres and infrastructure projects, the expansion of its Manufacturing business with a new offsite manufacturing facility in Walsall, and investment in its digital engineering capability through both people and services.
These investments form part of the business’ long-term strategy to deliver smarter, more sustainable and increasingly technology-enabled solutions across the built environment. Part of the Wates Group, 2025 saw SES substantially grow its turnover with external customers outside the Group by 64 per cent, to £292.3m (£178.4 in 2024). Revenue is now approaching an even split between work delivered for Wates and third-party customers, creating a more balanced and resilient portfolio for the future.
SES, which specialises in engineering, technology and offsite manufacturing services, has established itself as one of the UK’s leading design-led mechanical and electrical providers, delivering technologically advanced solutions across sectors including data centres, healthcare, science and research, defence, justice, commercial development and critical infrastructure.
The business completed 23 projects during the year, representing a 64 per cent increase on 2024, including the Life and Mind Building for Oxford University, Trinity Road, for Lloyds Banking Group in Halifax, and The Belfry Hotel alongside VINCI. Work also continued at several major projects under construction now, including the Etihad Stadium, Manchester and a major gigafactory in Sunderland for AESC UK.
It entered 2026 with a gross forward order book of £0.95bn and a strong pipeline of opportunities including aligned to its strategic growth sectors, particularly data centres and advanced manufacturing.
The results also follow the opening of SES’ flagship London office at Portsoken House in Aldgate, providing a strategic hub for the business’ growing operations across London and the South East, designed to bring together colleagues, customers and delivery partners in a highly collaborative and digitally-native environment.
