During the COVID-19 pandemic, SES Engineering Services partnered with Wates to deliver a full MEP fit-out of floors 14 and 15 at Royal London Hospital—creating additional capacity for over 170 intensive care beds. The entire programme was completed in just five weeks, compared to the expected 12 months, due to the urgent need for critical care facilities.
With social distancing restrictions in place, reducing on-site labour was essential. SES engaged its in-house offsite manufacturing facility, Prism, from the outset to produce prefabricated components, ensuring faster installation, improved safety, and reduced site congestion.
The project was a true test of innovation and endurance, made possible by a 24/7 collaborative approach. Key team members met every five hours to review safety, progress, and logistics—ensuring seamless coordination and programme certainty under unprecedented conditions.
