Creating a modern hub for education and community
Ponteland School and Leisure Complex is an innovative new-build facility delivered as part of the Ponteland Partnership reorganisation, which saw a £52m investment in local schools for Northumberland County Council. This flagship development combines education, leisure, and community services under one roof.
SES appointment and scope
SES Engineering Services was appointed by Kier Regional Building to provide full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services for the £45m joint school and leisure complex. The facility includes:
- A 420-pupil primary school
- A 1,600-pupil secondary school
- A state-of-the-art leisure centre with a café and sports bar
- A full-size 3G pitch and a library
- A new community fire station
Technical delivery and challenges
Working across highly serviced buildings spanning two and three storeys, SES applied its extensive sector experience to ensure the smooth installation of all MEP systems. Our approach focused on precision, safety, and programme certainty.
Community engagement
The proximity of the site to the existing school provided a unique opportunity for student engagement. SES offered work experience placements, with two students completing short-term roles and one student joining full-time, supporting skills development and local employment.
