Revitalising urban spaces through intelligent engineering

Stephenson Quarter is a mixed-use development in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne which will create 2,000 jobs and add £100m per annum to the regional economy.

Development details

The ten-acre Stephenson Quarter site, adjacent to Newcastle Central Station, features fine contemporary architecture alongside restored listed buildings, with a 250-bed 4* Crowne Plaza Hotel, 3,000sqm office block, restaurants, public open spaces and car parking.

First phase delivery

Delivery of the first phase of this landmark £200m master plan to transform Newcastle’s historic Stephenson Quarter in the city centre was an extremely rewarding experience for SES Engineering Services (SES).

Complex M&E coordination

Careful co-ordination of the complex M&E services to this major regeneration which included a 250-bed 4* Crowne Plaza hotel and a multi-storey car park with an office block where utilising the integrated BIM and prefabrication facility, Prism were vital components of the Stephenson Quarter scheme to overcome issues and to foresee potential challenges before they arose, in order to successfully tailor the approach required.

Offsite solutions and collaboration

Together the teams delivered a series of innovative offsite solutions which significantly reduced costs as well as creating a safer working environment on the project, which saw a close collaboration with principal contractor Galliford Try and developer Clouston Group.
