Project at a glance

SES partnered with Sir Robert McAlpine to deliver a £23m MEP package for the redevelopment of Springfield University Hospital – a landmark mental health facility forming part of a wider regeneration in South London. The project comprised two new state‑of‑the‑art buildings, designed to create modern, therapeutic environments for patients and staff while supporting the long‑term transformation of mental healthcare services across the region.

Delivering complex healthcare infrastructure within a live hospital estate required a highly coordinated and precise approach. Working alongside an existing Grade II listed hospital, the scheme demanded seamless integration of critical building services across both facilities, while maintaining strict programme timelines within a wider regeneration context. In addition, ambitious sustainability targets, including a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, had to be achieved.

Throughout delivery, the team carefully managed risks associated with material supply and labour availability, ensuring programme certainty despite a challenging delivery environment.

SES adopted a systems-led, offsite strategy to drive certainty, quality and efficiency across the programme.
Working collaboratively with Sir Robert McAlpine and the wider project team, SES delivered:

A core element of the delivery strategy was the use of offsite manufacturing through SES’ Prism facility. This included the production of approximately 150 corridor and riser modules, significantly improving installation efficiency and consistency.

By maximising offsite construction and early design integration, SES:

The approach enabled the team to maintain pace and precision while minimising disruption to ongoing healthcare operations.
