Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) specialist, SES Engineering Services (SES), has today announced record financial results, with turnover growing by 55.3 per cent in 2024 and profit (before tax) increasing by 60.2 per cent to £9.3 million.

The business, which provides design, fabrication and installation of building services to some of the country’s most complex schemes, saw turnover grow from £298.6 million to £463.7 million in 2024. This is supported by forward order book growth of £510 million to £1.2 billion, providing solid foundations for the future as SES strives to become the UK’s most, profitable and sustainable engineering and technology business.

Success has been achieved through a collaborative approach to working with customers and a strategic focus on existing sectors, including science and research, commercial, industrial, leisure and public sector, while also developing new markets. This is backed by a growing workforce of 890 full-time employees, including over 100 apprentices.

The strong performance reflects significant growth in both the business’s customer base and operational capabilities, alongside the integration of new offsite and technological services. This is demonstrated by a growing project portfolio that includes a number of major projects, including the Life and Mind Building (LaMB) at the University of Oxford, EDGE London Bridge, set to be London’s most sustainable office building, and SeAH Wind Monopile facility in Middlesborough.

“Our transformation extends beyond mere growth. In line with our purpose, we’re reimagining the future of technology in construction,” commented SES Engineering Services Executive Managing Director, Rob Clifford. “Through sustained investment in advanced digital engineering, smart technologies and offsite manufacturing, combined with striving for excellence in delivery, we are positioning ourselves to become the most profitable and sustainable engineering and technology business in UK construction.”

A significant element of the growth strategy has been the restructuring of the core engineering business into three regions: North, Central and South. This has enabled the company to provide improved national coverage, operating out of seven offices. The restructuring has resulted in several key appointments, strengthening the leadership team and enhancing operational capabilities. Further appointments are planned for later this year, to help the business drive innovation in sustainable engineering solutions and expand its digital expertise.

A key differentiator is SES’s digitally enabled offsite manufacturing facilities, which have helped to position the company at the forefront of construction innovation. The company’s offsite assembly team operates from a 6,000m² facility in Coventry and a facility in the North East of England, with a third, brand-new facility opening in Walsall later this year to support recently awarded Ministry of Justice contracts. This expanding manufacturing ecosystem strengthens SES’s capacity to deliver advanced offsite construction solutions.
