Engineering a world-class rehabilitation facility
The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) is a landmark £45m clinical facility located at the Stanford Hall estate near Loughborough. Designed to transform rehabilitative care for UK military personnel, the DNRC spans 43,000m² across 23 buildings and was officially handed over by Prince William and Prime Minister Theresa May in June 2018.
SES Engineering Services was appointed to deliver full MEP services for this state-of-the-art centre, which includes bespoke treatment spaces such as upper and lower limb gyms and a world-class prosthetic workshop. The facility is served by an energy centre that incorporates low-carbon technologies including photovoltaic panels and combined heat and power (CHP).
The project involved complex logistics due to its location within Grade II* listed Stanford Hall and registered parkland, requiring a highly managed and considerate approach to installation. SES utilised its offsite manufacturing facility, Prism, to deliver energy centre plant skids, energy transfer stations, and large multi-disciplinary service modules—enhancing safety, reducing on-site labour, and improving programme efficiency.
SES also partnered with the Career Transition Partnership to provide employment opportunities for ex-military personnel, aligning the project’s purpose with its delivery.
