Tower of London, Jewel House

ClientHistoric Palaces Agency
Value£1m
SES has ensured that one of Britain's greatest treasures, the Crown Jewels, can be displayed in the newly expanded Jewel House without fear of atmospheric damage.
SES' mechanical services contract for exhibition and ancillary areas included air-conditioning to the exhibition cases for the Crown Jewels. Carbon filters were incorporated within the display air conditioning units in order to remove atmospheric sulphur dioxide and other harmful elements, thus protecting the contents from any adverse environmental conditions.
The SES work was carried out in conditions of strict security and restricted access, with all major items of plant and equipment delivered in flat packed form and reassembled on site. Minimum disruption to surrounding areas was essential as the Tower of London remained open to visitors throughout the duration of the contract. The Jewel House was opened by HM The Queen, who is pictured here passing the Imperial State Crown.
